When the world is too much with me and my body feels lumpy, I escape
to The Ashram in Calabasas, California, a health spa unlike any other.
It is a no-nonsense, rigorous regime which requires a week's commitment
and total surrendering. If you give them your body and don't resist, you
will emerge one week later like a butterfly out of a cocoon. It is restorative
and revitalizing and a spiritual as well as a physical experience.
The food is almost all raw and the calories extremely limited. This is
a tasty, satisfying salad that is very easy to prepare:
Cut up mushrooms in small pieces and add some onion rings. Mix in a bowl
with fresh spinach leaves and put on the plate. Warm up an herb
dressing you like and pour over. Add some hard-boiled egg and sunflower
seeds on top and serve immediately.
